Robin Van Houten, OTR/L
Occupational Therapist

From the moment I learned what Occupational Therapy was, I knew I would be an OT. It combined my love of people, eagerness to help, thirst for knowledge (especially medical), excitement in problem-solving, and suited my high energy level

About me

After my first fieldwork in pediatrics, I was hooked. My first job was with a private practice in North Carolina, mainly seeing kids birth-5 years old in a children’s center, a few in the office and in-home. Five years later, my wonderful husband and I moved to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho to see if it suited us and our 4-legged family members. It did, and we still love the outdoor opportunities it provides us year-round. We love to run, hike, ski and snowboard, camp, and look for morels and huckleberries.

After owning my own practice, working at area pediatric offices, and staying home with my two boys, I decided to try out telepractice with the Tandy Therapy group. I am surprised by the fact that I love providing services via malpractice.

I pride myself on providing quality services with goals that truly reflect the needs and wants of the kids and their families: My favorite compliments are hearing how happy kids/parents are to be able to complete a task they care about (and that I didn't just sit them in a chair to stack blocks 😁). Over almost 20 years of being an Occupational Therapist, I realize I've become a very functionally aware OT.  Motor skills are important, but I always use a lot of sensory integration, developmental motor skills, neuromuscular skills development, strengthening, activities of daily living (including feeding), handwriting, environmental/task/behavior adaptation, and enjoy working with kids with various visual difficulties.

I'm always looking for new and exciting opportunities. Let's connect.
